According to online news publications such as TheGrio.com, a breaking news and opinion website geared toward African-Americans, and the Huffington Post, Gray was allegedly gunned down by two undercover police officers in Brooklyn on March 9. While the law enforcement officials claim that the 16-year-old threatened them with a firearm, the teenager's family members, as well as witnesses to the incident, have said that he didn't have a weapon.

The plaintiffs allege that the police officers used excessive force against their son and that he didn't receive adequate medical attention after he was shot.

"I have been to the scene seven times and had the opportunity to review witness accounts and it all contradicts with what police are saying. From looking at where the body was recovered, he was not in an area to run away. He was trapped," said Kenneth Montgomery, the attorney representing Gray's family, adding that the goal of the lawsuit is to "hold NYPD and these police officers accountable."

If one of your family members has died as a result of negligent behavior and you live in Missouri, consider finding a personal injury lawyer who will work hard on your behalf.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, five former workers were awarded damages of up to $853,000 each for lost wages. The source states that LLNL was contractually obligated to terminate employees if and only if there was "reasonable cause," and jurors concluded that this stipulation had been violated by the company. However, this is just the first phase of the court battle, as the plaintiffs are also claiming that they were discriminated against based on their ages, which ranged from 57 to 66.

"No one took any pleasure in laying off people. It was a terrible day for everyone," said Patricia Gillette, the defendant's attorney, of the 440 individuals who were fired by LLNL in 2008. "In order to ensure the future of the lab, they had to have the right mix of people going forward."

Gary Gwilliam, one of the lawyers representing the workers, said that there are 125 additional co-plaintiffs who are ready to go to trial regarding their alleged wrongful termination, and indicated that it is in the best interest of the lab to settle the remaining claims.

If you live in Missouri and have been the victim of wrongful termination, you may want to consider scheduling a consultation with a lawyer in Kansas City. Following the tragic incident, the victim's family filed a wrongful termination against the city of Downey, and agreed to a $4.5 million settlement earlier this week.

According to Long Beach Press-Telegram, a local news outlet, Nida and his wife were at a gas station when the father of four crossed the street, presumably en route to a nearby tobacco shop. That's when law enforcement officials spotted him, stating in later reports that he matched the description of a man suspected of an ATM robbery. The police officers attempted to detain Nida a number of times, but he resisted capture and allegedly "acted aggressively" toward them, which led to him being killed.

The source reports that Nida's sister, Teri Teramura, said that while the family would have preferred a guilty verdict to a settlement, they didn't want his children to have to endure a traumatic trial.

"People…please understand our fight is not over…we will continue to protest, we will continue going to city council meetings and we will continue to fight for justice for others who have suffered this same injustice," Jean Thaxton, the wife of the man who raised Nida from birth, wrote on the Facebook page dedicated to the victim's memory.

According to KTVU Channel 2, Kelly O'Haire claims that she was fired in 2011 in retaliation for attempting to expose an incidence of misconduct for which Suhr – who was deputy chief at the time – was responsible. The source states that Suhr failed to report a domestic violence call that involved one of his friends, thereby violating department policy and state law. Part of O'Haire's job included investigating cases within the department, so she filed a motion for disciplinary action against Suhr.

O'Haire alleges that a lawyer with the San Francisco Police Officers Association warned her against pursuing the case against Suhr, and says that she was terminated less than a month after he was appointed police chief in April 2011, reports the source.

"In order to close a budget shortfall, a reorganization of the department was completed resulting in excess of $1 million in savings. Several positions were eliminated, including that of Ms. O'Haire, as well as the reclassification of top command staff," reads a statement issued by the Police Department on the same day O'Haire filed her lawsuit.

If you live in Missouri and have been the victim of wrongful termination, you may want to consider scheduling a consultation with a lawyer in Kansas City.
According to the Vernon Hills review, an Illinois news outlet, the 49-year-old suffocated his wife, Rachel Stolberg, in their home on June 8, 2011, after she disturbed his sleep. Although Ronald admitted to this act of violence, he pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge brought against him.

Gary Foley, an attorney representing the victim's family, filed a civil complaint claiming that Rachel left behind assets worth upwards of $170,000, and suggesting that money may have factored into why Ronald killed her. Court records indicate that the couple had driven to Rachel's sister's house a few months prior to the victim's death with a large amount of gold coins in tow that they left with the sister. Although the coins were minted in 2008, explains Foley, Ronald says that he bought them in 2007 before he and Rachel were married. These aren't the only assets of Rachel's that he has allegedly tried to keep for himself.

"Ron is claiming all her (belongings) are his. You can't kill someone and get their stuff," said Foley, according to the source.

A former Starbucks employee filed a sexual harassment lawsuit in Eastern District of New York, claiming that her coworkers engaged in inappropriate behavior toward her and and that she was discriminated against due to a disability and ultimately fired in retaliation after coming forward to complain about the unfair treatment.

According to a press release from the plaintiff's law firm, Kari Smith was a shift supervisor who had been working for Starbucks for 11 years. Suffering from a medical condition that causes her to faint, Smith say she was humiliated and demoted at multiple different locations, but that the brunt of her torment occurred at a store in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.

Smith claims that the male employees at this particular location sexually harassed her in a number of different instances. She says that they pinned her against the wall, made offensive comments about her body parts and made advances of a sexual nature. Although the plaintiff allegedly complained to both the store and district managers, it appears that nothing was done to put an end to the harassment.

After taking some time off during an approved leave, Smith was terminated on the grounds that she had not provided the company with necessary disability paperwork.

"Starbucks fired Ms. Smith when she was at her most vulnerable," said the plaintiff's attorney, Douglas Wigdor. "While Starbucks likes to hold itself out as a progressive company, even their best marketing and public relations efforts cannot conceal the outrageous conduct Ms. Smith was subjected to."

If you live in Missouri and have been the victim of sexual harassment or gender discrimination, you can take a stand against the perpetrator. Consider scheduling a consultation with an affordable lawyer in Kansas City. Law enforcement officials who investigated the incident, which occurred in Hialeah, Florida, determined that Barrios had driven through a stop sign and was at fault for the accident, but Castillo's mother believes otherwise.

According to NBC 6 South Florida, Susie Castillo has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city, claiming that Officer Raul Somarriba, the driver of the police cruiser, was responsible for the wreck. The plaintiff's attorney, Carlos Silva, told the source that Somarriba was driving irresponsibly at the time of the incident, and that he has the surveillance video to prove it.

"What it shows is the officer doing a very high rate of speed in a 40-mile-an-hour zone," Silva said, noting that Somarriba was on his way to a non-emergency call. "We know that this vehicle was traveling well over 80 miles an hour, we also know he blew through a red light."

The lawsuit also claims that rescue crews who responded to the accident gave Somarriba preferential treatment over Castillo.

The plaintiff told the source that she wants to receive the justice she deserves on behalf of her daughter.

"When [police officers] do something wrong, they're accountable," Silva added. "They should be held responsible, and not hide behind the badge."

According to WBALTV.com, a local news outlet, Isiah Callaway died after being shot multiple times while sitting in his car on Crystal Avenue. The source states that Callaway faced minor charges for his involvement in a mail fraud scheme and had hired attorney Larry Feldman to represent him in court.

Federal prosecutors allegedly approached Feldman about obtaining Callaway's cooperation in the case, but the lawyer never disclosed this information to his client. The lawsuit states that Feldman contacted another one of his clients, Tavon Davis, who had also been part of the mail fraud scheme, to discuss how the two suspects could receive reduced prison sentences, suggesting that getting rid of Callaway might be the only option.

"He was executed because of the misconduct of an attorney," said Steve Silverman, the lawyer representing the victim's family. "Mr. Callaway came to Mr. Feldman to try to get a lighter sentence in a minor case. What he ended up getting was a death sentence."

According to CBS New York, medical professionals posthumously diagnosed him with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition that results from consistent head trauma.

Now, a year after he passed away, Boogaard's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the NHL, alleging that it should be held accountable for the hockey player's brain damage and prescription painkiller addiction.

The lawsuit states that the NHL should have been aware that men who play certain positions have an increased risk of brain damage and are susceptible to becoming addicted to drugs, and that it should have known that Boogaard was abusing painkillers and resisting necessary treatment.

"To distill this to one sentence, you take a young man, you subject him to trauma, you give him pills for that trauma, he becomes addicted to those pills, you promise to treat him for that addiction and you fail," said William Gibbs, the attorney representing the victim's family.

It is unclear at the time how much money in damages the family is seeking.

If one of your family members has died as a result of negligent behavior and you live in Missouri, consider finding a personal injury lawyer who will work hard on your behalf.
According to The Fresno Bee, a regional news source, 26-year-old Vincent Steen was killed by three law enforcement officials from the Porterville Police Department on January 10, 2010. The plaintiffs – Steen's mother, Cathy Connor, and brother, Randy Steen – allege that the victim was shot in front of them and bled to death in Connor's home. They claim that Steen was unarmed when the incident occurred, and are seeking damages for his wrongful death and for the negligent infliction of emotional distress.

While the attorney representing the city has said that Steen ignored numerous commands from the officers and appeared to pose an immediate threat to their safety, the family's lawyer, Roger Dreyer, alleges that the law enforcement officials acted violently toward the victim, who he referred to as a "frightened man," while attempting to arrest him.

"When unreasonable force is being used, the person being arrested can lawfully use reasonable force to protect himself," said Dreyer.

The source states that the incident started when police stopped Steen at around 7 p.m. while he was riding his bicycle because they thought he appeared suspicious. The victim fled from the officers after they used a Taser to try to subdue him, running to his mother's home three blocks away.
